When the stresses of a world in turmoil or merely a bad day at the office threaten to overwhelm,
help is just a cat-in-the-lap away. Feline therapy eases anxiety by lowering blood pressure
and releasing "feel good" endorphins. At this time of year when animal shelters are overflowing
with cats of all ages, there has never been a better time to adopt a feline therapist and let
a cat heal your heart.
The Addison County Humane Society joins Petfinder.com and The American Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in declaring June Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month.
ACHS invites the public to partake in some relaxation therapy by stopping by the shelter at
236 Boardman Street in Middlebury to meet available feline therapists. ACHS is offering
discounted adoption fees during the month of June on all cats 2 years of age and over.
You can also see adoptable cats online at www.addisonhumane.org
and www.petfinder.com.
ACHS is a great place to find a new furry friend. As a "No Kill" shelter working to help so
many cats in need, we maintain a list of cats awaiting their turn to come into our shelter
and find a forever home. The more quickly we can find loving homes for the cats currently
in our care, the more quickly we can take in others needing our help. When adopting a shelter
cat, you are truly helping an animal in need. Additionally, you get so much for your adoption
fee! All cats come with a pre-adoption screening, Feline Leukemia test, preliminary Distemper
vaccine, Rabies vaccine, de-worming, flea control, ear mite treatment, certificate for
spay/neuter, and a certificate for free vet exam.
Those interested in adopting a pet can visit the Addison County Humane Society at 236 Boardman
Street in Middlebury. Shelter hours are Tuesday and Friday from noon to 4pm, Wednesday and
Thursday from noon to 7pm, and Saturday from 11am to 4pm. For more information about the
Addison County Humane Society's Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month, please call ACHS at 388-1100.
